Walkscore – Helping Buyers and Apartment Searchers

Home buyers and renters today are more interested in the walkability of their future residence than in recent times.  Check out www.walkscore.com, which scores how walkable a property is by giving points for being near restaurants, cafes, parks, shopping, schools, etc.  The site also gives a public transportation score, provides printable maps, and shows comparisons to other neighborhoods.

For example, Walkscore.com gives Piedmont, the neighborhood I live in,  the following description:

Piedmont, Portland Neighborhood Information

Piedmont is the #43 most walkable neighborhood in Portland. This neighborhood is Somewhat Walkable with an average Walk Score of 68. Piedmont has 7,018 people—or 1% of Portland’s population.

Piedmont is similar in walkability to Reed and Arbor Lodge. Piedmont’s Walk Score is 2 points higher than Portland’s Walk Score of 66.

Pretty cool stuff! Enjoy!
